An easy way to explore the historic city Delhi- Rent a minibus

An Enchanting City

Delhi is a historic city. The Tomar dynasty ruled over the city in the 8th century AD. Prithviraj Chauhan took control in the 12th century AD. From the early 13th century onwards, a succession of five success Islamic dynasties ruled over Delhi – the Mamluks, the Khaljis, the Tughlaqs, the Sayyids, and the Lodis. In 1526, the Mughal Dynasty was formed to rule the area for the next three centuries. Their capital was in Delhi and Agra. In 1803, Delhi was captured by the British East India Company. In 1911, the capital of British India shifted from Calcutta to Delhi. In 1947, Delhi became the capital of Independent India.

Footprints of History

Footprints of Delhi’s rich history are visible throughout the city, through its numerous heritage monuments from various phases of its history. Islamic and Mughal structures are the most prominent, given the sheer length of time the Delhi Sultanate and the Mughal Empire were in power. The British also left their mark in Delhi, with the construction of Lutyens’ Delhi. Delhi has a staggering amount to see, but if one had to prioritize, the main attractions would include Qutub Minar, Purana Qila (or Old Fort), Humayun’s Tomb, Lal Qila (or Red Fort), Jama Masjid, Jantar Mantar, India Gate, Birla Temple, Bahai Temple, and Akshardham Temple. These should ideally be a part of every visitor’s itinerary.

Ways of Exploring Delhi

Delhi is a vast city. As per the 2011 census, the city proper had a population of 11.0 million, though the urban area had a much larger population of 16.3 million. Delhi also covers an area of 1,484 sq km (or 573 sq miles). To explore Delhi, one must plan properly. One can hire a car and driver. That is a convenient but expensive way of getting around. One can be adventurous and avail of the city’s metro and public transport services. This is the cheapest way of seeing the city, but one has to be prepared to rough it out, because it involves a fair bit of walking, and it also means traveling in overcrowded modes of transport. The metro is not a bad option because it covers the city reasonably extensively, and has air-conditioned comfort; however, last mile connectivity and overcrowding are both concerns.

Another way of seeing Delhi’s attractions is by going on a tourist minibus in Delhi. This option is
not as expensive as getting a private car and driver and is more convenient and comfortable
than going by public transport. One can easily rent a tourist minibus in Delhi over the internet.
A few of the top hotels offer the service and have the necessary tie-ups to rent a tourist minibus.
An obvious benefit of the tourist minibus in Delhi, apart from the cost, is that they go precisely
from point to point , so unnecessary diversions and long walks are avoided. Several of these buses
also come with knowledgeable guides, and they know just where to stop for food and shopping.

Conclusion

How you explore Delhi depends on your budget, your sense of adventure, and the convenience factor. Individual travelers need to weigh the pros and cons and decide what works best for them.
