The UNESCO declared DHR as a world heritage site in 1999. It is the second railway in the world to receive recognition. 

2.       The Tiger Hill 

Tiger Hill is located just five kilometers away from the city center. This is the place to be for someone wanting to witness the first beautiful rays of sun on the Kangchenjunga peaks. How to reach Darjeeling

Bagdogra, the nearest airport, connects this hill station to other parts of the country. Flights from Kolkata, Delhi and Guwahati come here. Darjeeling is three hours away from the airport. 

New Jalpaiguri railway station connects the place to Delhi. Several trains come here from Delhi throughout the day. From there, you can jump onto the famous DHR, the toy train. 

Road journey here may not be that comfortable. You can get buses to this town from Kolkata, Kalimpong and Gangtok.
