The UNESCO declared DHR as a world heritage site in 1999. It is the second railway in the world to receive recognition. 

2.       The Tiger Hill 

Tiger Hill is located just five kilometers away from the city center. This is the place to be for someone wanting to witness the first beautiful rays of sun on the Kangchenjunga peaks. You can also observe the imposing Mount Everest by the side. The place is also hailed for beautiful sunsets. Senchal Wildlife Sanctuary is another attraction located in close proximity. 3.       Sandakphu Trek

  • Have a ride in the Batasia Loop: One of the most scenic railways in the country; It features a toy train. It runs across the 50000 square feet ecological garden. Feast your eyes on an astounding variety of exotic flowers here. The place also offers a panoramic view of the Kanchenjunga peak. It is 4km away from the city center.

How to reach Darjeeling

Bagdogra, the nearest airport, connects this hill station to other parts of the country. Flights from Kolkata, Delhi and Guwahati come here. Darjeeling is three hours away from the airport. 

New Jalpaiguri railway station connects the place to Delhi. Several trains come here from Delhi throughout the day. From there, you can jump onto the famous DHR, the toy train. 

Road journey here may not be that comfortable. You can get buses to this town from Kolkata, Kalimpong and Gangtok.
